This course can be taken after completing the Open Water Diver certification. It's titled Advanced Open Water Diver because it advances your diving knowledge and skills.
That's what the Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. You don't have to be 'advanced' to take it! It's designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your Open Water Diver certification. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving.
Get credit! Each Adventure Dive may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding Specialty Diver Course. If you've already taken a specialty diver course, ask your instructor if you've earned credit for an Adventure Dive.
If you're already an Adventure Diver, you only need to complete two more Adventure Dives to earn the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Our Advanced Open Water course takes place on Saturday and Sunday on the third weekend of the month and begins at 7AM each day and end between 12-2PM. Sunday you will be diving off the boat, remember to take sea sickness medication if needed. (The first weekend of the month is defined by the first Sunday of the month.) This is a two day course so remember to rent gear for two days.
If you arrive 15 or more minutes late, you will need to reschedule (fees apply).
Please review the Diver Medical Questionnaire prior to your course as some students may be required to have a physician's approval before diving activities.

Dive shops for hundreds of miles bring their students to San Carlos beach for their scuba training, but Monterey Bay Scuba is already here! Monterey Bay Scuba is the only dive shop in California located right on the water. With other shops, you have to lug around sandy equipment in your car and travel between the shop and the dive location but not here! The beach you’ll be doing your ocean dives from is just a walk across the parking lot. Get geared up right here at the shop then walk right down to the water!
Once you’re certified, you’ll be invited into our exclusive Dive Club “Dive Tribe” and take full advantage of club discounts and monthly meet-ups featuring a presentation, night dive, BBQ, and unlimited boat drop-offs! As a certified diver you’ll also be able to hop on to our guided boat tours that leave from right behind the shop!
